On Tuesday, the political landscape in Telangana witnessed a significant shift as K Kavitha, daughter of BRS founder K Chandrashekhara Rao, was expelled from the party due to her alleged 'anti-party activities'.
Opposition parties, including the ruling Congress and the BJP, have characterized this incident as a mere family squabble. They have leveraged Kavitha's corruption allegations against her cousins, who are prominent BRS leaders, to challenge KCR and his party on corruption issues.
Kavitha's repeated accusations against her cousins, T Harish Rao and J Santosh Rao, both senior figures in the BRS, ultimately led to her suspension. BRS general secretary T Ravinder Rao announced her expulsion to the media, stating, 'Kavitha's recent conduct and anti-party actions are detrimental to the BRS.'
This announcement sparked protests from members of Telangana Jagruti, an organization founded by Kavitha. She has claimed that her cousins have accumulated significant wealth and implicated her father in the alleged Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project scam. Supporters of Kavitha argue that she has been wronged.
However, opponents of the BRS dismissed the situation as mere theatrics. BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao utilized Kavitha's claims to criticize the former Chief Minister, asserting that her allegations expose corruption within the BRS government. He emphasized the importance of revealing how public resources were misappropriated during BRS governance.
Mahesh Kumar Goud, head of the Telangana Congress unit, described Kavitha's suspension as a calculated act, suggesting that her statements are part of a larger scheme. He accused KCR's family of misappropriating public assets.
On Monday, Kavitha had accused her cousins of engaging in corrupt practices related to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project, which is currently under CBI investigation.
She stated, 'Harish Rao and Santosh Rao were responsible for critical aspects of the project and have amassed considerable wealth, misleading KCR. They are the true culprits of corruption.'
In response to her allegations, the Telangana government has initiated a CBI inquiry, while a judicial commission has already been established to investigate the alleged irregularities.
